Lord Shadus al'Shattersong

Shadus' photoAlong the Sagdtal Deep there was once a wall, this was before the lands to the west were swallowed in shadow. The wall was an ancient one, built by the Aztans. Along the wall were Castles and in each an ancient line resided charged with watching and guarding the wall.

To the North end of the Deep the Brennan, Yull, and Nrand lines held fast while the South was held by the Herrin, Fasne and Shattersong lines. The center was held by the Majnna line. The Majnna Keep was the seat of command of all the lines and the wall. Their leader was the Commander of the Watch.

Each family line was led by a Captain of the Watch. Each Captain of the Watch was chosen by the Elders of the line from any of its blood and all were selected because they were believed to be the best of their line. Sometimes that was measured in strength and skill at arms, sometimes in wisdom, but often a mix of all the qualities that would make them the best of leaders.

The Commander of the Watch was chosen from the Captains, and all served for life, though many retired as the infirmaries of age began to take hold of them.

This was all many years ago and even now people begin to doubt the stories of the Wall and the Lines of Watchman. It cannot be helped; even those old enough to have seen it with their own eyes start to doubt when they look to the West. How could anything good and noble have ever lived in those now-unknown wastelands? But it did.

The story is a sad one, and as such I will keep it short. It begins many places and for now we will pick a more recent one, but it all ends the same. When the Aztans came to these lands they found them both beautiful and deadly; beautiful because of the earth and deadly because of the inhabitants. It is not remembered how they did it, but the Aztans were able to destroy or drive out most all of the more dangerous denizens of these lands into a valley called the Sagdtal Deep. The Valley, in ancient lore, is said to have no bottom, and one walking in would just continue going downward into darkness without end. There has been much debate about this, and the prevailing idea was that the immense valley eventually went underground and was actually an enormous cave mouth, too large to be recognized as such from the surface.

After driving the dangerous creatures into the valley the Aztans erected a massive wall to keep them there. This wall was no ordinary stone wall. It wrapped in a half circle around the valley from the Chokata mountain range out and back again and was said to be over five hundred feet tall. Not only massive, it was covered in runes; the entire wall, and in the darkest hours of night they sometimes gave off the slightest glow.

The Lines of Watchman actually came hundreds of years after the Aztans had left these lands. And their massive keeps, though impressive, were built by the Watchman themselves and nothing on the order of the Wall. How exactly the Watchman came to be is another mystery ... For later.

Trinity

Trinity's photoTrinity was born on July 7, 1100. Her father was a powerful merchant, but of course had many rivals. Her mother used to be a great sorceress, but lost her powers when she married and bore Trinity, her first born. Trinity has one little sister, Yelena, who is her best friend. They can't be separated, and some people who are unfamiliar with the family say the two are twins. They could be, if they weren't 14 months apart. The Sword Coast was Trinity's home for 8 years.

Trinity was full of energy when she arrived home, ready to tell her sister the news that she was accepted to be Catine's Magic Apprentice for the next 10 years. She opened the door, running in, and tripping over something hard, landing in a pool of red liquid. Trinity got up, horrified to see her own sister, father, and mother slaughtered before her. There were shouts outside as Trinity stood frozen.

"Witch! I knew she would do something like this!" a man behind her cried. It was Old John, her family's hated rival for trade. "You see? Trinity has killed her family! Their blood is all over her!"

Trinity looked in horror as the villagers gathered around her house started to call her a witch and turned against her. Trinity ran, out the back door and toward the border.

At the border was Catine's Tower. She hoped to find open arms, welcoming her into her new apprentice position. However, Catine had heard of Trinity's family . . . the villager's version. He banished her, and she ran all the way to the border, running into unknown lands, and a huge forest.

For days she wandered, scavenging for food and water whenever she could. But it wasn't enough when she ran into a group of goblins. Goblins, no big monster, but Trinity had no idea how to fight. She was just about to be a magic apprentice, not a warrior! Just when the killing blow was about to land, a blast of heat and fire saved her. It was a kind wizard, who enjoyed walking in the forest that was on his doorstep. He took her in, and actually listened to her version of her family's slaughter.

For 3 years she trained and learned. She was taught how to use a sword, dagger, and most of all, magic. However, her trainer, Edwin, was old, and he eventually died.

Trinity wandered throughout the new realm, meeting many creatures, good and bad alike, for 3 years. One day, she ran into a group of orcs. For an hour she fought, but they overpowered her, taking her to their camp. When she was about to be killed, a man ran in, cutting her bonds. She fought with him to kill the rest of the orcs. His name was Ihkilyu, and he despised orcs, but he never told her why. He guided her to a realm called Falcon Tor, where they joined the Wandering Unicorns, and where she now spends her days.
